When all forms of energy available on the earth are analyzed, they ultimately end up being derived from either the Sun or the chemical process internal to the earth. Oil, nuclear fission, bio fuels, etc. are all relatively small, finite resources from a human perspective. NONE of the alternatives that have been proposed can scale-up to the levels that are needed by humans.
Since the Sun is the primary source, it would be best to derive the energy directly for most applications. That is, use the sun to run houses and businesses and to recharge the mobile power.
Mobile power is the major problem but if we rethink how we move people and material around, this should be doable.
Note that the Arabs have been twice blessed. First they have oil. But they also have thousands of square miles of sunshine that can be converted to electricity. That electricity could then be used to separate hydrogen out of sea water. The hydrogen could then be shipped all over the world, like CNG. |
