I have always been curious about what the rationale is for the very long period it always takes to replace a government that has fallen in Israel. I assume there is some legal requirement (the article refers to 90 days), but what is the underlying reason for this? It is certainly atypical of parliamentary systems, but perhaps there is something unique about the Israeli system that makes it appropriate. Any comments from knowledgeable Israelis in this respect would be appreciated.
