The paper asked him: Will your son be pro-Israel? And he replied, "Obviously, he will influence the president to be pro-Israel. Why wouldn`t he? What is he, an Arab?"
Then the paper asked him: Will your son really be influential? And he replied, "He`s not going to clean the floors of the White House."
Just that the paper`s second question was edited from the interview, possibly in the interest of conciseness.
Or, maybe the father really did say it like that. Except, as a physician, he surely knows many Arab physicians, and wouldn`t assume Arabs only take menial jobs.
It would be interesting to see the raw transcript of that interview, and see if the paper admits the possible error, if it occurred. Or maybe the editor just doesn`t like Emanuel, and wants to smear him. |
