| Yes--Chabad`s first priority is taking care of Jewish spiritual needs. Judaism is not a missionary religion, therefore unlike the late Mother Theresa, Jews don`t actively seek to bring Judaism to non-Jews. Chabad`s second priority--after the spiritual needs--is to render material assistance requested by fellow Jews. It is an important duty to take care of one`s own. When one group takes care of its own, it spares them from becoming a burden on others. Thirdly, although Chabad`s mission is primarily to help fellow Jews observe Judaism better, it is known to help non-Jews who turn to its charities as well--and if it can`t help them directly, to refer them to non-Jewish charitable organizations and coordinate with them, if necessary. Chabad in Thailand disbursed a lot of financial aid to Thai survivors of the tsunami in late 2004. They also have drug treatment facilities to help addicts of any religion in California. So its not true that they help Jews only. |
