I came to the same conclusion in a paper I wrote about Hezbollah, as some arab muslim people in Lebanon: that without the Jews and Israel, the sectarian groups would still be fighting with each other, whether they be sunni and shiite, muslim and hindu. The existence or non existence of Israel and the Jews would do nothing to solve their grievances against each other. Once we ceased to exist, they would go one fighting with each other. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is only one of the conflicts going on in the world, and really not the main one. Jews and muslims lived near one another and were friends under colonial rule; but nationalism spread the poison that drove a wedge between them. Also, tyrannical and criminal govts. that took control during a period of lawlessness in many of these countries. The object of torture is to make people afraid and obey the master; however, after a while, seeing so much blood and death, people become desensitized, even to violence.
