The IDF raid on the West Bank started this. Presumably the raid was either intended to show that the recent release of Pal prisoners didn;t mean Israel was going soft, either that or to provoke the inevitable qassam retaliation it has and so potray Israel as the victim, something it needs because the settler pogroms and Obama`s new approach are focusing international pressure on Israel. It`s happened before and Israel seems to be trying it again. It has to really, because the chaos in Hebron over one house has shown that Israel will never willingly evacuate large numbers of West Bank settelments. It would cause Civil War. Therefore Israel, like Iran with its nukes, has to play for time.
That does not excuse Islamic Jihad, who are a bunch of terrorists. However, let`s understand what the IDF is up to, and let`s hope politicians worldwide keep up the pressure for peace and don`t let themselves be distracted. |
