| The IDF could not control the firing of rockets when it had total militray control of Gaza. What is the magic formula that Netenyahu or Livni is proposing that will change this picture? Quiet was accomplished only through negotiations with Hamas. Hamas got the short end of the stick in the last 6 months by Israel`s refusal to open the borders, and is maneuvering to change that for the future. It is in both parties interest to maintain the quiet, yet Hamas can not afford to maintain the quiet with the continued closure of the borders. Even without the cease fire, it is doubtful that Hamas will go all out and fire hundreds of rockets, it will instead encourage and support other organizations to do so at a rate of under 10 per day just to cause enough discomfort that does not warrant large scale Israeli operation. Hamas is more concerned about its differences with Fatah now than with Israel. |
