| Original Christianity came to Estonia very early through Estern Christendom, based in Constantinople. Whether one can trace Estonia`s conversion to Antioch, I can`t say, but there is no doubt that the 11th century Roman Catholic invasion of Livonia carried out by German Bishop Albert, who founded Riga, and built his castle in Saaremaa (Estonia), was the typical work of the Bishop of Rome in crushing indigenous Christianity along with paganism by fire and sword. Albert called it a "crusade", indistinguishable from the crusades waged in Palestine and against Jerusalem by these same "crusaders". A travesty of Christianity, giving Christianity a bad name which has persisted to this day. Not every "bishop" professing or "leading" christianity has been "Christian". Least of all, the Bishop of Rome. |
