Wow, Mr. Kashua....I am speechless. An amazing article, articulating what I have heard people say before, but never so eloquently. I wish for you and your family safety and security -you have SUCH courage to print this knowing that there are those out there who might have your head for it!
I remember having a pool side conversation at the Hilton Taba in Egypt about 20 years ago with a girl whose father was the head of cardiology at a major Haifa hospital, and who was an Israeli Arab. She expressed her amazement and respect that in a Jewish country, full of Jewish Doctors, an Arab could be chosen over them to be the leader of a major hospital department. Her opinion that in the reverse position not only would the Jew not get the job, but the Jew would likely be dead, only served to illuminate what a special place Israel is with it`s Arab Israeli citizens who DO have full rights and privileges, not to mention representation in knesset.
