I realize the possibility that my references to 1948 and there being only one Arab-Israel war may have become tiresome.
Still, at pp. 1706-7 of Foreign Relations of the United States, 1948, Volume V , we see that the US thought most of "Arab Palestine" should go to Transjordan (as Jordan was then called), and at p. 1704, the US K viewed as "threatening" Israel`s rejection of an armistic with Jordan, Israel having "indicated that it must be either peace or war."
This US message containing instructions to James McDonald continued: "If this threatening attitude should be confirmed, again this Govt would have no other course than to undertake a substantial review of its attitude toward Israel."
Now -- when do we begin to take instruction from history? |
