Like it or not, the PA performs an essential service for Israel. It is the source for health care and schools and fire fighting and other government services for the 3.5 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Before the PA was established, all of these government services were performed by the Israeli government`s Civil Administration at a substantial cost to Israeli taxpayers. Those costs are now borne by the PA.

The costs the PA cannot raise through taxes are largely from US and EU funds allocated in favor of the two-state solution. If the PA goes, those funds go. And the costs and government functions revert to the OCCUPYING POWER, Israel. Add to that the new taxes for funding the occupation in Gaza and you begin to see that the current situation requires a bit more long term thinking than just the jollies of the moment.

The Jordanian Option is DEAD. The Egyptian Option is DEAD. If two-states is dead, that leaves few options left.
