The story sounded extremely fishy to me on first hearing it–why on earth would the IDF shell the place 24 hours after evacuating people there? And I have since heard an Israeli military spokesman state that their forces were not even in the vicinity on Jan 4th. After all, this was only a day after the ground operation began. I also saw a report that "An Israeli television network examination of the matter with hospitals in the area showed the hospitals had no knowledge of such an incident." Yesterday many media sources reported unsubstantiated UN claims that a UN humanitarian convoy was hit by an Israeli tank shell, killing a driver & wounding 2 others. But a medic attending the casualties said that they suffered GUNSHOT wounds, and that Israeli soldiers had risked their lives to evacuate them, after the convoy came under fire from Hamas snipers. (Hamas fired on Keren Shalom crossing this afternoon.) How credible is the UN? |
