Israel doesn`t need a one month truce, a year truce or a decade truce. It needs Hammas to lay down its arms, and to agree to a total end to its hostilities. If Hammas cannot agree to this, we should keep them out of the truce equation, and make our deals with Egypt, the US, and other administrations that will have the ability to keep the Gazan borders and ports weapon-free.
A one year truce in Hammas`s view, is simply a mechanism to rearm and start the fight again at a future time. We cannot let that happen again ---- we made this mistake in Lebanon, rushing into a UN brokered ceasefire agreement that has only allowed Hizbolla to rearm and present a likely scenario that we will have no choice by to engage another war with them in the future. We need to dry up the arms shipments into Gaza, and have the world impose strict sanctions upon them should they continue to fire Qassams into Israel. This will be the best strategy in which to keep this border with Israel quiet. |
