Seems to me that claiming that Hamas can not legitimise storing weapons and fighting from densely populated areas `because` they were elected is a non sequitor. They like the Irgun and Lehi and Stern before them are not heads of any state. They like the aforementioned are stateless people. Unlike the aforementioned they live in one of the most densely populated areas on the planet. That the Haganah were often engaged in fighting Irgun etc is a seperate issue entirely and nothing to do with the rights or wrongs of said methods of fighting or weapons storage. Irgun [from which both Begin and Shamir sprouted]engaged in the very same tactics and methods as Hamas in terms of weapons storage, deliberate killing of civilians [albeit not suicide bombs] and so on.
The particular issue of endangering or compromising their own populations never concerned Begin or Shamir etc so why should Hamas be judged under a more onerous standard of behaviour than 2 of your recent Prime Minister`s? |
