| Recently Olmert boasted that Israel will retaliate with "disproportionate response". This is a code word signifying that there will be extensive civilian casualties as well as infrastructure and material damage. It is not really something to boast about in advance unless you are seeking election in Israel, which Olmert isn`t. The world will react to Israels applications of disproportionate response. The American government turns away and pretends not to notice, but other nations cannot be so unresponsive to the killing of innocent civilians. Israel should not penalize international criticism to the killing of so many children. For one thing, such a reaction on the part of Israel compounds the original offense. If Israel ever expects the international community to by sympathetic towards Israel when unjustly attacked, they will have to endure their criticism when Israel is the perpetrator of unjust attacks. |
