| It is no surprise that Israel launched their Gaza op when they did. I am sure that everybody, including Hamas expected it. Still, there are two remarkable things abuot the Gaza op. First was its brutality. Senior IDF men said that the rules were changed in such a way that the IDF would take fewer casualties but at the expense of a larger number of civilian casualties. As the devestation became known, they stopped saying this, but it was already obvious anyway. The second remarkable thing was that Israels defense minister was the head of the labor party. Truly I say to you all, with left wingers like this, who needs a right wing? It seems that the limiting factor in the amount of civilian casualties that Israel is willing to inflict has nothing to do with the ruling party. It has more to do with international pressure. |
