The left-Center gambled on the war, they thought that the hard pounding of Gaza and the killing of Palestinians will help them convince Israelis that they are better at security than the right. They failed because wars make people adapt more extremist right wing position, and reduces the motivation of left leaning people to go and vote. Perez made the same failed gamble in 1996.
When the left-Center understand that in order to win the next election they need to engage in a political peace process, instead of trying to be more `Right` than the right, maybe then they can win elections twice in a row.
Anyway is too late now, if they are any serious about winning the next elections, they need to sit in the opposition and wait for their chance, rather than join a right wing govenment. |
