| A man who desires to lead his nation into a peaceful existence, Abbas is a pathetic figure. Israel has spent the last four years doing everything it could to destroy him and, inadvertently due to total incompetent leadership, it has at the same time done everything it could to make Hamas the dominant political party in Palestine. Following Dahlan`s botched coup attempt which doomed Fatah in Gaza, and Israel botched Cast Lead fiasco, Hamas is stronger, and Abbas so weak that he has had to fire the PM he appointed in order to try and appease Hamas. Abbas is pathetic, not because he is a feckless man, but because he has been opposed by such ruthless and vicious opponents as Hamas and Israel. He wants peace, they don`t. They won. |
