I just read yesterday that Olmert was mad as hell that Barak suggested to Hamas that it stop the rocket fire. So maybe Cast Lead wasn`t supposed to stop rocket fire at least as far as Olmert is concerned. Olmert`s objective was a secret, maybe even from himself.
Your guess is as good as anybody`s as to what the purpose was, other than a pre-election campaign tactic. It didn`t seem to work for Kadima or Labour as far as control of the country.
As far as I could tell, everybody agreed to do Cast Lead, but each party had a different goal to attain. That`s why they had trouble deciding when to stop. They agreed the method, but not the objective. |
