I would tend to believe the accounts of these squadron leaders, and would not brush them off, because these are young men whose faith would be shaken if they are not given a proper hearing, especially if there is corroboration w/ the other side`s account. Just as some Palestinians may exaggerate an account, so too, a company commander`s cavalier attitude toward the woman who was evicted and subsequently shot, reminds of the character Amnon in Spielberg`s Shindler`s List, who would pick off anyone at will in the camp from his balcony. I mean that the commanders themselves would do well to scrupulously examine their conduct, in a society where Arabs and leftists have become pariahs. I am saying all this exactly because I know what is Israel is facing, and it is tempting to be "gung-ho", but one should not succumb to that attitude. One has to continue to work to build an inclusive society exactly to counter the hatred that is going on. Of course it is a tall order. |
