Turkey used to be a great empire. It was rich, it was powerful, it was a player in European politics for a few centuries. Then he "lost it". Once that happened she started borrowing money from what was called the "Great Powers". In the process she lost what is now Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece.

Towards the end of the nineteenth century and into twentieth the Great Powers gained concessions from that failed Empire. Some of those concessions included giving the right for Jews to settle in the "Province of Palestine" with fewer restrictions. Turkey became the "Old Sick Man of Europe".

Okay, the US borrowed money so they could fight some wars, like Turkey did, not so long ago. Doesn`t look too good for the States, either.
There`s this addage about people who don`t learn from history--could it be that the US is becoming the "Old Sick Man of North America"?
