| Jewish independence effectively ended 63 B.C. when Pompey entered Jerusalem. There were brief moments of independence between 67-70 c.e. and 132-135 c.e. during Jewish revolts, but they both were crushed by the Romans. In 1948, it would have been more correct to say that there had not been an independent jewish state for 2,011 years. |
