| I am a veteran of Bergen-Belsen. Still, otherwise than Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, I do not blame the Pope for having been a teenage member in the Hitler Youth and German military service. I know from somebody with a similar past with whom I became very close, that at a certain age, when still a schoolboy, one had no choice but to join the Hitler Youth and soon afterwards the army. That specific friend of mine became at a later stage very influential and an extremely close friend of Israel. |
