Benedict XVI has spoken so many times about his teenage years and unwilling service to the Nazi gov`t, the Knesset member should give it a rest. You aren`t going to squeeze something out of nothing.
JP2 was a better speaker and user of public media, and his dignified words should be the last on the matter. Future papal visits would be better as private affairs/pilgrimages, as one suspects Benedict would have preferred, since he seems to be media shy.
Sometimes words fail, and a dignified silence is better. It`s a shame the pope couldn`t visit these places, including Yad Vashem, and say nothing at all. That would also honor the victims. |
