There are a tremendous amount of American support for Israel`s basic right to exist. Americans would send their sons and daughters to die to protect it. Futhermore, Americans are suspicous of the Palestinians` leadership, and justifiably so.
This being said, Americans have HAD IT with jamming up world relations for the benefit of a vocal minority at home and "settlers" abroad. No screaming about Iran will change this. Its not Obama. Its not "the liberal media." Thanks to our own leadership, we know fear-mongering and military advernturism when we see it. We know a false choice when we see it, too. We realize we can support Israel without giving its far right a blank check to further humiliate Palestinians and wave sabers with unconditional support.
For those of you who think this issue will decide the 2012 election, look again Americans will vote on his healthcare reforms and economic recovery. Americans are past the boom-time "vote on your favorite wedge issue" style of politics. |
