Peres wants to define some "temporary borders", but only under the "clear promise that the border will in a short span of time become permanent borders."
Anyone want to take bets that he will want those "temporary borders" to be defined by the path of the separation wall?
Regardless, can I suggest a problem?
It is this: the Palestinians have long refrained from doing a "Ben Gurion" - i.e. unilaterally declaring their state - because the USA has always said they would not recognize it.
What if they decide that Bibi`s intransigence means it`s now or never, and Abbas unilaterally declares the independent state of Palestine with the 1967 lines as the border?
Does Obama recognize that state?
And if he *refuses* then what does that say about the Road Map?
And what happens if he does recognize it?
Food For Thought, Mr Peres. |
