| Israel desperately needs America, not only for Americas military support, but also the financial and political support. Israel has received these things for so long that they are considered as a never ending natural resource. To America, Israel is a large hole in the pocket that has also become a major political liability. There is no upside. Some Israelis claim that Israel provides America a handsome return on their "investment" but they are always short on specifics. Even Americas attempt to get Israel to live up to their previous committments outrages some Israelis. Americas relationship with Israel is badly in need of review and updating. If Israelis are expected to act according to reality, they need to know and understand what that reality is and what role they are playing in the ME. |
