Xenophobia comes in many forms, and in this country many otherwise intelligent, enlightened people think that immigrants are a burden to this country`s . . . resources. The fact is that immigrants bring new ideas, some of them renew "old" ideas.
Imagine how Modern Orthodox Jews from the West would create the need for Dati Mamlachti schools in a neighborhood where the Mamlachti school is struggling to maintain its school population. Or, worse, Olim Haredim who love the Land of Israel move in and start up a Kollel, a Heder, and . . . Some of them might even be computer techs, Special Ed teachers, or plumbers and electricians.
Is that what the fuss is all about? |
