for decades the diaspora has been the enabling force behind israel`s occupations and especially its settlements and their satellite outposts. but for decades, the diaspora was NEVER aware of exactly WHAT it was they were supporting. recent events, and even more so, the growing availability of ever improving forms of personal media(computers, cell phones, digital cams, et al), are revealing to the diaspora things of which it`s never before been fully cognizant. the cat`s been let out of the bag, and the inherent flaws of the ideal that they`ve so faithfully supported in the past are being increasingly revealed...and has resulted in a gradual shift in the perspective of many...which is destined to spread. but the driving force behind israel, and especially its occupations and settlement enterprise, is NOT judaism...so the loss of support from the jewish diaspora does NOT necassarily mean these inequities will end without strong outside pressure in the form of severe sanctions, and probably even physical intervention. because face it, the goal of the settlement enterprise has been met, probably beyond the wildest dreams of those who conceived it! they are deeply and firmly entrenched, to the point where israel, while obliviously continuing efforts to expand their presence, has completely lost control of them...to the point of there being a haunting question of whether it`s even "capable" of removing them? they`ve become their own entity, and they`re well represented in the ranks of the idf. israel`s only real option, if that day comes, is to offer incentives and a deadline. then take care of those who accept the incentives, and abandon those who don`t by withdrawing all forces on the day of the deadline. the settlements are a beast that israel has nurtured, but can no longer control. yet knowing the beast has long since become a danger to itself, snarling and biting the teat that feeds it; israel continues to suckle it. |
