Jonathan Lis and Dana Weiler-Polak, Haaretz Correspondents: Jerusalem mother suspected of starving her toddler for months
Talkback
Title:Heredi
Name:Miriyam Karasik
City: State: California
The Heredim owe allegiance only to Ha Kodesh Boruck Hu. They do not believe Israel should exist although they enjoy living in Jerusalem. Tolerance by all is needed here. Heredim need to stand down as violence is prohibited according to Torah. Hadassah hospital should be allowed to treat and decide what happened to the child. If the child is assessed as having been treated in an abusive manner the children should be taken into protective custody. The children should be allowed to testify in the case as their witnessing is of utmost importance.
By no means are Heredim above the law just because they owe allegiance to a higher authority. In fact, respect for the law should reflect respect for Ha Kodesh Boruck Hu. The flailing about someone whom others know to have been negligent or abusive to a child or children, reflects poorly on them.nnPerhaps, a judge likeSchlomo Ha Melek will be able to stop conflicts but lacking him we must rely on his replacements as judges, are Rabbis.
