obama is desperate to achive certain very ambitious foreign policy successes. among those, is a final solution to the israel--palestinian conflict, in the larger conflict between israel and the arab world.
in his ambition and haste, obama started off with certain goals and actions, but without a plan, and without the usual diplomatic preperations.
hence, obama made the settlements the center pice of his middle east diplomacy while forgetting borders, jerusalem, and the poison pill of the cynically named "right of return."
obama is his own worse enemy, although his closest advisors could get the prize. when there is no real legitimate palestinian government, settllements become a rather minor issue. |
