Israeli tourist stabbed in face by Libyan worker in Sinai

An Israeli tourist on Monday was stabbed by a Libyan worker at a resort in the Egyptian seaside town of Nuweiba.

The governor of Egypt's South Sinai province, Mohammed Hani Metwalli, said that the tourist, who was vacationing with his family, was returned to the Israeli city of Eilat for treatment.

The Libyan fled after Monday's attack, but left behind his passport.

Authorities are searching for him.

A spokeswoman for the Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat confirmed that a man with a stab wound had been treated.

"A man was brought in this morning from Sinai. He had been stabbed in the face, he received stitches and was released," said Naomi Yitzhak.

On Monday, the London-based pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat reported that a Hezbollah agent arrested in Egypt told investigators his cell was planning attacks on Israeli targets to avenge the killing of terrorist mastermind Imad Mughniyeh.

The Counter-Terrorism Bureau in the Israel's Prime Minister's Office said last week it had "grave and immediate" intelligence concerning Palestinian terrorists from the Gaza Strip who are operating in Sinai under Hezbollah direction and sponsorship and seek to abduct Israelis vacationing in the area during the Pesach holiday.
