Palestinian woman miscarries after wounded by IDF in W. Bank

A Palestinian in her seventh month of pregnancy miscarried Thursday due to wounds she sustained from crossfire during a clash between Israel Defense Forces and armed Palestinians in a West Bank refugee camp.

Maha Katoumi, 30, was seriously wounded when IDF soldiers fired at militants, who were hurling improvised grenades at them. She is currently in intensive care. Doctors say her wounds caused her to lose her baby.

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was also wounded in the exchange. Palestinian sources said that a 16-year-old boy was also wounded by IDF fire.

According to the IDF, the clash began after troops identified a group of armed militants.

The IDF soldier was taken to Beilinson Hospital in the city of Petah Tikvah, near Tel Aviv, suffering shrapnel wounds to his arm and leg.

Also Thursday, two Qassam rockets struck open areas near a kibbutz in the western Negev.

While the rockets did not casue injuries or damage, a six-year-old boy hurt his hand when he jumped out of his window in fear. He received treatment at the scene and was not taken to hospital.
