Ben Gurion University student council heads resign over student strike
By Mijal Grinberg and Tamara Traubmann, Haaretz Correspondents, and Haaretz Service

Ben Gurion University student council members in Be'er Sheva resigned on Friday from their positions because of their opposition to the ongoing student strike, and the student body support for the strike.

The council heads had wanted to sign a compromise agreement to end the strike. The student body strongly opposed the compromise, and therefore council leaders submitted their resignation.

On Thursday, around 700 students participated in an open hearing where the council heads tried to convince the students that the strike could not continue. The council heads cited economic damages to the student union stemming from the strike- financial aid from various bodies that has been halted due to the continuation of the strike.

However, the student body refused to compromise, and decided to continue the strike. They called students to take part in the protest in Jerusalem.
