President Shimon Peres and Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi on Thursday appointed a Druze officer to be the president's next military secretary.

Colonel Hasson Hasson is the first Druze to be appointed for this position in Israel's history.

Upon hearing the news, Hasson wished to thank Peres and Ashkenazi for choosing him. "This is a unique and sensitive job that requires coordination among the security establishment, the intelligence community, Israel Defense Forces and other public organizations," Hasson said.
