The Immigration and Absorption Ministry held in Jerusalem on Sunday afternoon a march commemorating 63 years since the victory over Nazi Germany, with the participation of hundreds of Second World War veterans.

Among the marchers were Absorption Minister Jacob Edrey, Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu and Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman.

A million and a half Jews fought for the Allied forces during World War II, alongside tens of thousands who joined underground resistance militias. Some 30,000 of these veterans currently reside in Israel.

Addressing the march, Absorption Ministry Director General Erez Halfon thanked the veterans for their bravery and said they deserve the utmost appreciation and respect for their contribution to the most important victory in human history.

"We are inspired by your bravery and your heritage guides us in our attempts to secure the existence of the Jewish People," he said.
